Villa

Tugendhat

Visiting Villa Tugendhat in Brno had long been a personal wish, and I knew my photographer’s heart would skip a beat. The architecture and interior, designed by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe in collaboration with Lilly Reich, offer what feels like an endless number of captivating perspectives. Thanks to my camera, I was able to capture a few of my own.

The villa’s private quarters beautifully prove that simplicity does not mean the absence of design solutions. My focus shifted to the tiniest details—those that turn the seemingly understated overall impression into something truly special.

As you step onto the representative level of the house, the atmosphere changes instantly into an open, green oasis. Unobstructed views through retractable glass façades, paired with lush houseplants and an expansive arrangement of carefully curated furniture. The design is timeless—and I was left speechless.

In the end, you also get a glimpse into the villa’s service areas. The simplicity returns, though never without the necessary love for detail. The view from the kitchen into the garden is truly beautiful. But to ensure that the outside view into the kitchen isn’t spoiled by any clutter, the worktops were designed to be uncomfortably low. After all, perfection lies in the eye of the beholder.
